Junior Achievement has appreciated a decade-long partnership with Comcast, and was thrilled when Matt McConnell, Senior Vice President and GM of Comcast Wholesale, joined the JA Board of Directors in early 2014. Under Matt McConnell’s leadership, the mass media and communications company stepped up and joined the JA Communications & High Tech Industry Challenge, committing to increase their student impact through Junior Achievement by 50% in a friendly competition against other industry leaders. In the past year, Comcast’s involvement with JA has skyrocketed, with the company dramatically increasing involvement in volunteerism, special events and corporate support!

This school year, 25 Comcast Wholesale employees spent two days helping students understand and practice the ins and outs of keeping a personal budget at JA Finance Park, presented by Great-West Financial. In addition, the company hosted a job shadow event for 37 students from Thornton High School. High school students were given the opportunity to see the inner workings of a telecommunications company, and learned about careers in everything from broadcasting and sound engineering to marketing and human resources.

In addition to donating time and talent, Comcast Wholesale is committed to supporting the future success of local students in a variety of other ways.  For example, the company made a significant corporate contribution to JA during the holiday season on behalf of their customers. Comcast also provided JA with the opportunity to run Public Service Announcements on their network this year, at no cost to the organization.

Comcast Wholesale employees love to have fun for a great cause, and a record 70 people raised nearly $12,000 to support local JA programs through the JA Bowl-A-Thon this year! In addition, the company hosted three foursomes at the DIRECTV Junior Achievement Golf Classic, presented by RE/MAX, LLC. on July 23, 2014.
