Ourselves® Activity Two: Angie and the Carnival
Students are introduced to a storybook character and her plans to earn money by making and selling crafts at a carnival.

Key Learning Objectives

  • define money
  • identify one form of money (coins)
  • differentiate coins

Read the story “Angie and the Carnival.” Go over definitions (earn, save, and money). Display pictures of the coins and ask students to identify each. Give the students the coin-scratch bookmark. This activity works best if the volunteer has brought enough pennies for each student. The coin-scratch bookmark is another opportunity for the students to practice identifying coins.
