Our Families® Activity Two: Needs and Wants
Students become aware that all families must have food, clothing, and shelter to live. They begin to understand the difference between a need and a want.

Key Learning Objectives

• explain the differences between a need and a want

Go over definitions (need and want). Distribute Need and Want cards. Explain to the students that you will show them pictures and on the count of three, everyone will hold up the card that displays their answer. Show students each of the flashcards, leaving the picture of the high school diploma for last. Show them the picture of the diploma, asking the kids to explain their “need” or “want” answer. Generate discussion as to why it is a need or a want.
