What does a day in the life of a JA Finance Park volunteer look like?
Volunteers arrive at JA Finance Park an hour and half ahead of students to receive an interactive, hands-on training. The training will prepare you to lead a group of students through the new and improved tablet based simulation and answer common questions from the students. Once the students arrive, every volunteer will be matched with a group of students. Throughout the simulation you will play a strong role as a mentor by sharing your own experiences with education, career choices, managing finances and much more!
What is the average number of students I will be working with?
JA Finance Park has on average about 100 to 120 students visiting per day. We aim to have approximately 6 to 10 students per volunteer. The specific volunteer to student ratios depends on the student attendance and number of recruited volunteers.
Upon arrival, where do I go?
When you arrive for volunteer training you will come to the front of American Furniture Warehouse. Please use the main entrance to the store. Head into the showroom and up the main stairs which are located in the middle of the showroom. JA Finance Park will be on your left at the top of the stairs.
How long will the day be?
Your volunteer training will start at 8:00 a.m. (unless otherwise noted) and students arrive at approximately 9:30 a.m. Students will conclude their day at 2:00 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). We will do a short debriefing with the volunteers once the students leave to wrap up the day.
How should I dress?
Business casual; comfortable shoes are highly encouraged!
How does lunch work?
Volunteers are more than welcome to access Subway which is located on site at American Furniture Warehouse or they may bring a lunch with them. We do have a microwave and limited fridge space.
Can I bring along a friend to volunteer?
More volunteers are always appreciated; however, to ensure we are properly prepared, please coordinate with your company coordinator or teacher to get them properly signed up!
