Requirements

K-5 Programs

The elementary school programs include six sequential themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and one capstone experience. Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. The sequential activities build on studies from each preceding grade and prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning.

Kindergarten: Ourselves

Ourselves uses a series of age-appropriate stories read aloud by the volunteer along with hands-on activities that demonstrate helping, working, earning and saving.

1st Grade: Our Familes

Our Families emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy and engages students in activities about needs and wants, jobs, skills and interdependence.

2nd Grade: Our Community

Our Community explores the interdependent roles of workers in the community, the work they perform and how communities work.

3rd Grade: Our City

Our City studies careers, the skills people need to work in specific careers and how businesses contribute to a city.

4th Grade: Our Region

Our Region introduces the relationship between the natural, human and capital resources found in different regions, and explores regional businesses that produce goods and services for consumers.

5th Grade: Our Nation

Our Nation examines how businesses operate in the United States. Students role-play business ownership, interview for jobs, and learn different methods of production while exploring various economic issues that affect businesses.

JA More Than Money

JA More Than Money is for 3rd-5th grade students and teaches them about earning, sharing, saving and spending money. Students manage a bank account, identify businesses they can start or jobs they can perform to earn money, survey personal and job skills, and learn about the SMART system and ethical business practices.
