Training
Volunteering for JA certainly doesn’t require an advanced degree or even teaching experience. We provide you with easy-to-use teaching materials and training which takes approximately 1 1/2 hours and covers topics such as managing a classroom, integrating your personal and professional experience into lessons, and presentation skills. Weekly training sessions are held in convenient locations around the metro area or at your company.
Required for all volunteers, the training consists of:
- Overview/history of JA
- Arranging a planning session with your teacher
- Explanation of your materials provided in our kit
- Teaching tips like providing positive feedback, how to engage students in discussions and deeper thought, focusing on the learning goal and much more
The training takes approximately 1 1/2 hours and is offered every Wednesday in the following locations. Please contact the staff member listed to RSVP.

Online Training
We highly recommend that all volunteers attend their scheduled, in-person training session facilitated by our staff. If that’s not possible, you can participate in the JA-in-a-Day program, our online training. Just click on the appropriate video — elementary or middle school. Each runs 45 minutes and covers pertinent information for volunteers.

Sample Curriculum

With the help of our volunteers, Junior Achievement, Rocky Mountain Inc., reaches 100,000 students annually. We do this through relevant and innovative curriculum brought to life through volunteers just like you. You’ll see from the samples below that we encourage students of all ages to think for themselves, apply basic skills and solve problems. And remember, JA staff provides you with training and guidance that makes teaching easy.

Elementary School Programs: In 3rd grade, you teach the students about the role business plays in our city, how to start a business and how to deposit a check.
Middle School Programs: In 6th, 7th or 8th grades, you teach “JA Economics for Success” that provides practical information about personal finance. You help students understand the importance of identifying education and career goals based on each student’s skills, interests and values. The lessons also demonstrate the economic benefits of staying in school.
High School Programs: “JA Be Entrepreneurial” focuses on challenging students through interactive classroom activities to start their own entrepreneurial venture while still in high school. Discovering the elements of a successful business, identifying a product or service, analyzing market needs and demographics — it’s all here in this exciting course that allows students to experience business ownership, its risks and rewards.
