Colorado Business Hall of Fame Laureates Announced

The upcoming Colorado Business Hall of Fame will mark the 20th anniversary of the event. On February 12th, 2009, five businesspeople and one family will be honored for their contributions and impact on business in Colorado. These Laureates will join the list of 109 past inductees:

  • Bruce Benson: With over thirty years of experience in the Denver community, Mr. Benson has shown his commitment to the community and education by serving as chairman and board member of many organizations. Currently Mr. Benson is the president of the University of Colorado school system
  • Cathy M. Finlon: As the owner of one of the 100 largest advertising companies in the nation, Mrs. Finlon has a deep involvement with the Denver community. Her company, McClain Finlon, has donated it’s services to many non-profit organizations, which has added up to millions of dollars. Mrs. Finlon is also known for her involvement in revitalizing the downtown Denver area.
  • The Loo Family: Orin and Miriam Loo started their greeting card business from the garage of their own home. Their two sons, Dusty and Gary, eventually joined the business, which later became Current Inc. The Loos have invested in many Colorado Springs businesses, helping slowing businesses grow. One of their most notable investments is Sky Sox stadium, the home of the Colorado Rockies’ minor league affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
  • Sam Maynes: Mr. Maynes is recognized as one of the biggest contributors to water law. He has helped author and structure many water conservation laws in the western United States. In addition, Mr. Maynes became general counsel for a Ute Indian Tribe, where he transformed the tribe from relative impoverishment to one of  Colorado’s biggest gas producers and one of the nation’s wealthiest tribes.
  • Jordan Perlmutter: Mr. Perlmutter is recognized in both the real estate business and the Jewish community. In addition to serving on many boards of directors,  he is known for his contributions to the building and funding of over $14 million for Beth Israel at Shalom Park, a project that began 25 years ago. Today, Mr. Perlmutter continues to raise money for the residential care facility, and sits on the board.

  • Jack Vickers: Mr. Vickers’ oil and gas company has made strides for Colorado business. In addition to his business, he worked with Jack Nicklaus to create the Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock. The course later became home of the INTERNATIONAL golf tournament, the first $1 million tournament on the PGA tour. During his career, he was a member of numerous boards of oil companies and charitable organizations.

These Laureates will be honored on February 12th at 7 p.m at the Hyatt Regency at the Colorado Convention center. For more information about the Laureates, click here.
