The last week in September, Robin Wise, President/CEO, Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain Inc., Hollie Stevenson, VP Education, Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain Inc. and JA Board members, Steve Anton, Partner, Anton Collins Mitchell LLP; Steve Davis, Senior Vice President – Policy and Law, Qwest Communications; Dave Markham, President, Commercial Launch Services Lockheed Martin; and Sandy Rothe, Managing Partner, Deloitte, joined with more than 100 other passionate JA leaders for JA Day on the Hill activities held in Washington, DC.
Robin and others from JA Rocky Mountain Inc. received a warm reception from the following elected officials and their staff: Senator Bennet (CO), Congressman Perlmutter (CO 7th District), and Congressman Coffman (CO 6th District). The staff from the offices of Congressman Polis (CO 2nd District), Senator Udall (CO), and Senator Enzi (WY) were also very welcoming. There are over a dozen pieces of federal legislation swirling regarding education and/ or financial literacy. Our main thrust was to make sure there were no unintended consequences from legislation that would preclude organizations like JA from putting programs in classrooms. Robin and the others delivered a compelling message about the importance of educating young people about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and being workforce ready. We are continuing the discussion with the congressional offices about legislation that we learned about to ensure that the bills do not negatively impact JA from being in the classroom.
