Junior Achievement (JA) high school students who competed in an “Apprentice”-style contest to help promote Lakewood’s Green Living Fair recently won a “Defender of the Planet” award from the City of Lakewood as part of its 2010 Sustainability Awards competition.
Teams of students competed against others in a style similar to the “Apprentice” television show. They helped develop a marketing plan and entertainment options for Lakewood’s annual Green Living Fair. Their plans called for booths about recycling, gardening and other ways to be more environmentally aware. This year the fair’s attendance reached 200 with a live band and a Denver radio station broadcasting “live” from the event.
JA students who won the award include: Branden Dunn, Xavier Harris, Casey Hudson, Viridiana Jaquez, Ngan Le, Javier Mancha, Will Martin, Ken Tiedeman, Chelsea Wilman, Nathaniel Barragan, Tayla Conley, Jasmine Connally, Jeffrey Do, Ethan Kessinger, Taylor Scholfield, Dylan Torres, Halie Walker.
Lakewood established the annual Sustainability Awards three years ago to recognize members of the community who are leading the way to a more sustainable future.
