Colorado students can boost their financial IQ while earning chances for college scholarships at EducationCents.org, a new website created by CollegeInvest, a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education.
Educationcents.org features free interactive courses, tools and games to help students and their parents understand and take control of their finances.
The website also offers a cutting edge rewards program that encourages students to complete tasks on the site. Points earned by students for completing courses on money management, credit, identity theft, spending and more are redeemable for entries in monthly and annual scholarship drawings ranging from $500 to $2,000 each.
The website also includes an entire section devoted to paying for college. It covers the value of education, how to save for college, offers financial aid and college planning timelines and helps families to understand the real value of education beyond high school while also becoming smart consumers of higher education.
CollegeInvest collaborated with financial planning, higher education and non-profit experts to create this comprehensive online financial education program. Topics range from basic financial terminology to the psychology of spending. A few partners in creating the program include The Financial Planning Association of Colorado, The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Denver Branch, The Council on Economic Education and Dr. Carrie Payne, a Psychologist with specialties in working with college students and wealth counseling.
