JA Kick Start Your Future: A Valuable Collaboration for Denver’s Kids

For a second year, JA-Rocky Mountain partnered with the Denver Police Department, the Denver Mayor’s office and several other organizations to offer JA Kick Start Your Future–  a week-long summer program designed to give at-risk students a place to learn valuable tools that will help them be successful in life and in the business world. The program was held in August at College View Recreation Center.

Middle and high school  students  from Southwest Denver  participated in a variety of workshops and hands-on experiences with an emphasis on job readiness and financial literacy. They learned about personal branding, relationship building, personal financial management and entrepreneurship.

“It was a dynamic week filled with great learning opportunities,” said JA Program Manager Jill Hrnicek. “Students had job shadow experiences at three local companies – PwC, Encana and Comcast – and they ended the week as entrepreneurs charged with developing and presenting a product idea.”

JA plans to offer JA Kick Start Your Future again in 2017 partnership with the Denver Police Department, Denver Public Safety Youth Programs, the Center for Relationship Education and the Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver.
