Program Implementation Options for Fall 2020
In-class programming with recorded volunteer videos: This implementation model is meant to be used when students are physically in the classroom with the teacher. Teachers can adapt the material for use in a fully remote setting. The JA kit of materials is provided to the teacher. Each of the 5 session begins with a recorded volunteer video (under 15 min) that introduces the main topics, presents key terms, and connects the material to the volunteer’s personal experiences. The teacher then facilitates the main activity in the classroom, using material provided by JA. All activities have been modified to account for social distancing in the classroom. A 15-minute teacher orientation is required.
Fully remote, self-guided programming: This implementation model can be used in a virtual classroom as self-guided content. The help of a caring adult may be needed for younger students. It is a condensed version of JA programming and only presents the main topics in each session. Each of the 5 sessions consists of a volunteer video (less than 15 minutes) that connects the material to the volunteer’s personal experiences, followed by an activity that can be completed at home and/or questions that can be completed and submitted to the teacher.
