Western Union transfers employee time and talent to JA students

Well-known for its role as a leader in global payment services and money transfer, Western Union is also a frontrunner when it comes to corporate social responsibility and financial education. Creating economic opportunities and helping people and communities grow is at the core of Western Union’s mission.

Since 2006, Western Union has been an outstanding JA-Rocky Mountain corporate partner, providing $499,953 in financial support as well as industry know-how, executive leadership and extensive employee volunteerism. In fact, most recently, JA received a $20K grant from the Western Union Foundation thanks to the volunteer efforts of employees.

In 2015, the Western Union Foundation held a competition among all Western Union global employees to encourage them to report their volunteer hours. The Foundation awarded a grant to the NGO with the highest volume of volunteer hours contributed by Western Union employees. Out of all of the company’s charitable partners around the globe, JA-Rocky Mountain was fortunate to have more than 64 Western Union employees support its programs in 2015 and to win the generous grant on behalf of staff volunteers.

Whether sharing their knowledge and experience with students at JA Finance Park, teaching lessons in classrooms during JA in a Day, or teaming up with friends and colleagues to raise money at the JA Bowl-A-Thon, Western Union’s employees display tremendous commitment to their corporate mission of enriching the lives of people around the world by enhancing economic opportunities.

And the dedication of time and talent doesn’t stop there. For more than 10 years, senior executives from Western Union have brought their insights and connectivity to serving on the JA board of directors, with Carrie Damon, vice president of strategy, currently lending her talents.

Western Union also serves as a Program and Workshop Sponsor for JA BusinessWeek, an exciting summer leadership experience for high school students. JA BusinessWeek allows students to explore leadership concepts and build confidence alongside more than 120 of Denver’s most dynamic and accomplished business professionals.

While Western Union may be a leader in the money transfer business, JA-Rocky Mountain ̶ and the schools and students it serves ̶ know that the company and its employees also lead the way in the transfer of time and talent and are a valued partner in financial education.
